Alternate Worry

Last week a random collection of people from all over the internet decided to have a go at the biggest banks on Wall St, and, to their surprise, they won. This made headline news all over the internet and mainstream media. The financial markets and the capital system that underpins our entire economy, was put into the spotlight as rich bankers lost billions. It really does show that “Money makes the world go round.” Money is very important, one of the most important things in life, one of the most essential. Companies, banks, kingdoms, even families and relationships all rise and fall on the presence or lack of money. Or so we have been conditioned to believe. Seneca, who lived at the same time as Jesus, said “Money has never yet made anyone rich.” It still hasn’t. We always want more. “More” is demanding and controlling. It is never ever satisfied. It keeps us awake at night. It keeps us from ever being satisfied or happy. It deprives us of finding deep and lasting pleasure in God’s goodness. It makes it extremely hard to hear what God is saying, and even harder to do what God asks us to do. Unsurprisingly then, Jesus says that in his alternate kingdom, things are different. He says don’t worry about the future, trust in God. If we can learn to trust God more, we find that our perspective begins to shift. As we see the world in this alternate light, we will be better able to take our limited amount of time, energy and money and sink it into things that really matter to us and to God. Join us on Sunday morning at 10am, in person, or online, as we think about Jesus words, learn to better see ourselves from God's perspective and choose trust over worry.
