Father Forgive Them
This last couple of weeks have been difficult for many, if not all of us. It’s a time of turmoil and confusion, a time where so many people are trying to figure out what to do. I think the most common response I’ve given to anyone this last few weeks has been, “I just don’t know”. The truth is I spend a lot of my life trying to figure out what to do. What am I going to wear today? Where am I going to eat after I finish writing this blog? What am I going to study at Uni? How much insurance should I buy? What do I need to invest in so I don't have to work until I am one hundred? What am I supposed to be doing in my marriage? So much of life is trying to figure out what we are doing. If you are like me, there are lots of times in life when you don't know what you are doing and you make mistakes. Despite prayer, study, meditation and seeking the guidance of others, we still make mistakes. Often we hurt ourselves, or people we love, because of mistakes we made when we didn’t know what to do. I love that the first words Jesus speaks when lifted up onto the cross, according to Luke, are “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” There are so many times when I have been encouraged to think that Jesus says that over my life. Father, forgive him, he doesn’t know what he is doing.
