Tomorrow Matters
A few months ago I discovered a great TV show. It’s a brilliantly dry satire of Australian government bureaucracy called ‘Utopia’ and it’s produced by the ABC. The show has been running for a few years, so I went back and started watching the show from the beginning. Every time I had a spare half hour or so I would watch an episode until eventually I ran out of episodes half way through the current season. The show hadn’t ended, it wasn’t axed, it's just that they only make and release one episode per week, so I have to wait a whole week to see the next episode. It’s tough. I know that watching an episode a week was the normal way we watched TV growing up, but now there’s a better way. When I watch a new TV show I want to watch whatever episode I want, whenever I want. I don’t want to wait a week! I’m sure I’m not alone in this feeling. This is why Netflix and other producers generally release whole seasons of a show at a time. A few months ago the complete third season of ‘Stranger Things’ was released, so Rebecca and I were able to watch it over a couple of weeks. Netflix and other studios know that people in this current generation (and some of us older people) don’t like to wait. When people decide to watch something, or buy something, they want it instantly. Of course, getting everything you want, as soon as you want it, is not the wisest way to manage your finances. An important element of the bible’s instruction about money is to make sure we manage it effectively for the future. Tune in as we look to the books of Proverbs and Ecclesiastes, as well as the words of Jesus and Paul, to learn how to invest wisely so that we have the resources for the future to pursue what God calls us to do.
